In case you’re wondering whether a compost pile can be built solo, here’s a timelapse showing part of the process. Katja first assembled two separate piles, each made up of 40 buckets. Later, she combined them into one large pile to increase the thermal mass. This helped protect the compost against cold nighttime temperatures (around 10 °C), while also reducing moisture and heat loss. As a result, she was able to reach higher internal temperatures—up to 70 °C—which was an excellent outcome. #soi
