"Why do you baste the quilt top? I lay the quilt top onto the batting/backing without securing it. Never moves." I personally love basting along the top edge first, then the sides as I go, and finally the bottom when I get there. From my experience, this keeps my quilts nice and square, helps me avoid tucks, and when it's time for binding, the basting makes sure the outside edge stays secure and smooth.
