The suspect at times went off on tangents about cigarettes filled with fiberglass and seeing videos about psychotropic drugs.

He was the man who took a widely circulating video of citizens containing the suspect in a July 26 stabbing at Walmart in Traverse City that left 11 people injured. In it, people surrounding the suspect yell to drop the knife, which he appears to do.

Matthew Kolakowski was shopping with his daughter at a Michigan Walmart when he heard screams and saw a man with a knife.

"I'm still sitting and grappling with the weight of realizing that it was kind of a life-or-death moment," said Julia Martell, who witnessed the stabbing, which wounded 11 people.

A Walmart employee was helping a customer check out when she heard a warning that someone in the store had a knife.

A 42-year-old man entered the Traverse City Walmart around 4:43 p.m. on Saturday and used a folding knife to stab five males and six females, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office.

Bystanders helped subdue the suspect in the mass stabbing event at a Walmart near Traverse City, according to law enforcement.
