The current seven-person Chicago school board, with members all selected by Mayor Brandon Johnson, will switch Wednesday to 20 board members and a president. Political Reporter Chris Tye reports.

In November, voters elected 10 of 21 school board members. The rest of the board, including the president, are appointed by the mayor.

Chicago’s school board will expand from seven people appointed by the mayor to 21 people — 10 of whom were elected last November. They will serve a two-year term and in Nov. 2026, all seats will be up for election.
