According to a post from veteran reporter Hector Gomez, New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto will play 10 games in the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) before reporting to his first spring training with the organization.
Last month, former Mets infielder-turned-MLB insider Carlos Baerga reported that New York had extended an offer to the 30-year-old slugger. According to Baerga, “Alonso is expected to sign soon,” per a translation of his Spanish tweet, but the offer seemingly will come closer to the Mets’ desires: shorter-term, higher average annual value.

Duquette reported the offer was only available to the Mets. The former exec added that Alonso’s agent Scott Boras declined to comment.
