Miguez has served in the Louisiana Senate since 202,4 and before that, he was a member of the state House. He is also a skilled gunman.

Louisiana state Rep. Blake Miguez, R-New Iberia, has announced he is running for the Senate District 22 seat currently held by Sen. Fred Mills, R-Parks.

Miguez will challenge a fellow Republican, Sen. Bill Cassidy, in the first partisan primary in Louisiana since the adoption of the new election format by the Louisiana Legislature in 2024.

Miguez accused Andre at a recent campaign forum of not actually living in Senate District 22. Andre, 48, responded by holding up his driver’s license showing an address within the district confines.

In addition to Miguez, Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming, who served in Trump’s first administration, has announced that he will run for the Senate seat. The 73-year-old has also lambasted Cassidy.
