Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has been dramatically cutting federal jobs over the past month, creating chaos and fear throughout the federal workforce, but meeting little official pushback.

Some federal agencies, including the State and Defense Departments, told their employees not to respond to an email asking for a list of tasks they completed.

A coalition of unions and groups suing the Trump administration said that the email from the Office of Personnel Management directing workers to justify their jobs was unlawful.
