Former Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor after selling the team to Bill Chisholm, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday.

The NBA board of governors has approved the sale of the 2024 champions to a group led by private equity mogul Bill Chisholm.

Per senior ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne in a recent social media post, "while Bill Chisholm will technically be the Celtics Governor, he and ... Grousbeck plan to run the team together as originally planned." This will have Chisholm as the team's official governor and Grousbeck serving as an alternate governor, according to Shelburne.

This Boston transition is different than the one happening in Los Angeles where Lakers heiress Jeanie Buss will remain as the team’s governor for the next five seasons after selling majority ownership of the team to businessman and Dodgers owner Mark Walter at a historic $10 billion valuation.
