For 50 years, music has been a big part of the history of “Saturday Night Live.” A new documentary by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson richly brings some of that history to light, with artists who do the rite of passage by performing on the show,

The celebration of SNL’s 50th anniversary continues with a look at their iconic music performances in a feature doc directed by Questlove.

We're mere weeks away from Saturday Night Live's three-hour live celebration of the show's half-century on the air, SNL50: The Anniversary Special. If it's anything like 2015's SNL40 special, you can expect a show overflowing with celebrity cameos and hilarious homages to iconic sketches and characters.

The outlet reported that “SNL” will return with a new episode on Saturday, Feb. 15, one day before the three-hour “Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special” is set to air.

The episode starred the original "Saturday Night Live" cast members — Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Chevy Chase, who did double-duty as the show's first "Weekend Update" anchor.
