Tropical Weather Update: TD9 and Humberto at 5 am
The forecast track keeps Humberto offshore, but Bermuda could still feel significant effects. Tropical-storm-force winds are possible there by Tuesday night into Wednesday, with the odds around 50 percent. The exact track will determine how close the storm’s strongest winds and rain pass to the island.
We are monitoring the tropics for impacts from Tropical Storm Imelda that is forecast to become Hurricane Imelda may move away from the Florida and Georgia coast as early as Tuesday evening. This turn to the east is sooner on the current track and helps North Carolina avoid increased severe weather threats.
At 8 a.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that the tropical depression is in the Atlantic Ocean, 285 miles northwest of the Eastern Tip of Cuba and 100 miles west-southwest of the Central Bahamas. It is moving north-northwest at 7 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

Tropical Weather Update: Imelda and Humberto
Even if it stays offshore, the system will be close enough to bring strong winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rain to parts of the Southeast. Forecasters expect it to become a tropical storm within the next 12 to 18 hours and likely strengthen into a hurricane by early next week before running into stronger winds and cooler air.
Hurricane Humberto continues to strengthen and has become the third major hurricane of the season. It is currently a Cat 5 with 160mph maximum sustained winds. Nine is now a Tropical Depression and will soon become a Tropical Storm and be named Imelda.
A Weather Impact Alert remains in effect for Columbia and the greater Midlands region as Tropical Depression Nine continues to strengthen in the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Humberto will slowly gain strength over the next few days, becoming a hurricane this weekend north of the Leeward Islands. Humberto is projected to become a major hurricane by Monday between the Bahamas and Bermuda as it tracks northwest.
A tropical depression is likely to form in the Atlantic this week as a coastal storm threatens the mid-Atlantic with strong wind and flooding rain. Meanwhile, America’s heartland will see summerlike temperatures.
