The outlet and others also reported Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys denied the Bears’ request to interview Dallas coach Mike McCarthy for the vacant coaching job.

Seahawks hopefuls may have been wishing for draft-pick compensation in exchange for Carroll, sort of how Sean Payton was traded from New Orleans to Denver two offseasons ago. That won’t happen. Carroll is free to coach elsewhere and the Seahawks wouldn’t benefit from him filling a head coaching vacancy.

Carroll’s strength is in culture-building, but greatest NFL accomplishment is Wilson. That’s of critical importance to the Bears, who need to find a head coach who can develop both the franchise and its quarterback, Caleb Williams.

The Chicago Bears are casting a wide net in their search for a new head coach. And according to ESPN, that includes a scheduled Thursday interview with 73-year-old Pete Carroll, the Super Bowl-winning ex-coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Carroll, who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks, is scheduled to interview with the Bears on Thursday, a source said. He is one of more than a dozen coaches the Bears have requested to interview as general manager Ryan Poles seeks to do a deeper dive into the candidate pool than he did when he hired Matt Eberflus in 2022.
