KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Chiefs’ Trey Smith has become the NFL’s highest-paid guard with a freshly inked $23.4 million deal.
When free agency begins next week, the Chiefs will target Ronnie Stanley, the nine-year veteran who is the best left tackle on the market.
It looks as though former Tennessee Vol standout Trey Smith isn't going to test the market and get his big payday after all. At least not outside of Kansas City. The Chiefs are reportedly putting the franchise tag on their standout guard two weeks before the start of free agency.
It does not appear Trey Smith will consider a holdout. He signed his franchise tender Sunday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport tweets.
