The U.S. Department of Agriculture terminated the Regional Food Business Centers program, which provided grant funding to Kansas farms and businesses.

A Trump administration reorganization of the Department of Agriculture would eliminate U.S. Forest Service regional headquarters and significantly change or eliminate some agency functions.

The United States Department of Agriculture, or USDA, will close down a major portion of its current headquarters in Washington, D.C., moving some of the staffers to Northern Colorado.

It is unclear how this may affect Raleigh's ARS office, which includes three units: Food Science and Market Quality and Handling Research, Plant Science Research and Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research.

The USDA is on the ground in Kerr County and across the Hill Country to help farmers and ranchers recover from the July flooding. Agriculture producers in 16 Texas counties have until Sept. 11 to apply for federal assistance. Farms and ranches were flooded on both sides of the Guadalupe River, from Kerr County to Canyon Lake.

The move is part of USDA’s larger plan “to achieve improved effectiveness and accountability, enhanced services, reduced bureaucracy and cost savings for the American people,” according to the announcement memo.
