A 6.8 magnitude aftershock struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean on Sunday, the regional branch of Ministry of Emergency Situations said

Both incidents could be connected to the huge earthquake that rocked Russia’s Far East last week, that triggered tsunami warnings as far away as French Polynesia and Chile, and was followed by an eruption of Klyuchevskoy, the most active volcano on the Kamchatka peninsula.

The intensity of the earthquake that occurred off the coast of the Kamchatka peninsula was 4 points, the magnitude was 6.8, according to a preliminary estimate, the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. The epicenter was located 279 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 25.9 km.
