Urban Meyer offers bold take on Penn State's James Franklin firing
The Penn State Nittany Lions are the latest CFB program with a head-coaching vacancy after firing James Franklin on Oct. 12 after 11 seasons in Happy Valley. Meyer has not been mentioned as someone who could replace Franklin; he believes Penn State already has its next head coach in mind.
After Penn State fired James Franklin, one name trending for the wrong reasons was Urban Meyer. A fake post on social media had many people believing the FOX Sports contributor and former Ohio State coach would be taking over in Happy Valley. The Instagram account patrickwcutler_official claimed Meyer would be taking on the position.
On the latest episode of the “Triple Option” podcast, Meyer suggested fellow former Florida coach and current UNLV coach, Dan Mullen as a repalcement for Franklin. “How about Dan Mullen,” Meyer said. “…Scored 51 last week. And you know he’s from the Northeast by the way.”
On “The Triple Option” podcast with former Alabama star Mark Ingram and analyst Rob Stone, ex- Ohio State coach Urban Meyer suggested UNLV’s Dan Mullen as a strong candidate to replace Franklin. “How about Dan Mullen?” Meyer quipped. “Damn right he is (undefeated), scored 51 last week. And you know, he’s from the northeast, by the way.”
