Daily Weather Update from FOX Weather: Tropical trouble could be brewing for US East Coast next week
As Hurricane Gabrielle heads for the Azores, Tropical Storm Humberto is expected to become the next Atlantic hurricane over the weekend. But what's brewing next in the Atlantic could potentially pose a threat to parts of the U.
The National Weather Service anticipates that the system “is likely to become a tropical depression in a day or two near The Bahamas before shifting north and possibly impacting southeastern North Carolina and/or northeastern South Carolina as early as Monday,” it said in a briefing Thursday.
Both of these systems are projected to move to the north and eventually will be affected by a large area of high pressure over the Great Lakes.
Tropical Storm Humberto is forecast to become a major hurricane this weekend and a second system — likely to become Imelda — is a possible threat to Florida or other parts of the U.S. coast.
The forecast is trending towards greater impacts for the Carolinas, including heavy rain, gusty winds, and severe weather between the Monday and Wednesday timeframe.
Tropical Storm Humberto will slowly gain strength over the next few days, becoming a hurricane this weekend north of the Leeward Islands. Humberto is projected to become a major hurricane by Monday between the Bahamas and Bermuda as it tracks northwest.
