Several massive wildfires are burning across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia prompting residents to evacuate. These maps show where the fires are active.
Wildfire season usually happens the in summer and fall, but the USDA says increases in large fire activity have been driven by rising temperatures.
Roads in Franklin and Levy counties were closed due to smoke at 7 a.m. April 22, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Others remain open, although smoke can affect visibility in some areas, and the Florida Highway Patrol is urging motorists to use caution.
Devastation is visible across the area, with burned structures, collapsed roofs, and charred remains scattered throughout affected neighborhoods.
More than 130 wildfires have burned across Florida, as an 18-month drought and dangerous weather conditions drive one of the state's worst fire seasons in decades.
