As the National Hurricane Center tracks Hurricane Humberto, it's also watching a tropical depression likely to become Tropical Storm Imelda.
More than 2 million New Englanders were without power. Howling winds were gusting 115 miles per hour. Hurricane Gloria was dubbed the “storm of the century” when it barreled into Long Island and New England on Sept. 27, 1985.

A combination of weather factors and geography helped make it one of the most brutal storms in the modern history of hurricanes.
Tropical storm alerts have been posted and at least one state has declared a pre-emptive state of emergency as a looming storm system is on its way to becoming future Hurricane Imelda, bringing the potential threat of heavy rain and strong winds to parts of the Southeast.
