Harvard, Boston University and Tufts University are among six Massachusetts colleges warned by the federal education department that they may face “enforcement actions” for alleged antisemitic actions on their campuses.

In a letter sent on Monday, the federal department said schools could face "potential enforcement action" if they do not protect Jewish students.

Harvard University announced a faculty and staff hiring freeze Monday. In a press release, university president Alan M. Garber stated the reason for the decision was "substantial financial uncertainties driven by rapidly shifting federal policies.
