Not everyone wants to hear Ed Sheeran sing for free. The four-time Grammy award-winning singer tried to give a surprise performance in India on Sunday — just to be stopped by cops for not having the right permits.

Ed Sheeran apparently hit a sour note with police in India. The four-time Grammy Award winner was stopped from busking in the southern city of Bengaluru on Sunday, the BBC reported. Police said the singer did not have the necessary permission to conduct a surprise concert for a crowd of spectators.

The police pulled the plug on the gig, which was being held at Church Street, when the Grammy winner was midway into the performance of his chartbuster “Shape of You”.
