A coalition of state attorneys general filed a lawsuit Monday challenging the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s demand for states to turn over personal data — including names, birthdates, and home addresses — for people who are enrolled in a federally funded food assistance program.

The lawsuit alleges the USDA is illegally trying to gather personally identifiable information on program participants as part of the administration’s mass deportation efforts.
