An officer was hospitalized and police were searching for one person after a shooting Thursday morning in southwest Houston, officials said. Officials with the Houston Police Department provided limited details about the shooting on Twitter,

The officer who died was identified as Jesus Vargas, a 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. Police later killed the suspected shooter, 56-year-old Robert Davis III, after an hours-long manhunt.
