Paddy Pimblett has been given a new ranking following UFC 319, leaving MMA fans stunned. Pimblett entered into the top 10 of the UFC lightweight division following his breakout victory against Michael Chandler last April. He stopped Chandler in the third round of their lightweight clash at UFC 314 in Miami.
Paddy Pimblett wants a shot at the UFC lightweight title, but sent some scathing words to other potential opponents.
Paddy Pimblett has moved up two spots in the latest UFC lightweight rankings. The Liverpudlian previously occupied the No.9 position at 155lbs; however, he has since been given a shiny new No.7
The Brit has moved up two spots to #5, meaning that he has jumped ahead of both Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot. While their wins may not have been more significant than Pimblett’s, both Dariush and Gamrot have earned victories more recently than the 30-year-old star.
And just like that, Paddy Pimblett has moved up from the No. 9 ranking at lightweight to No. 7. The change occurred on Tuesday morning’s rankings update, and few people noticed because no ranked lightweights were fighting at last weekend’s UFC 319.
Liverpool MMA star Luke Riley has finally put pen to paper on a deal with the UFC. The 26-year-old featherweight has been on the radar of the UFC for quite some time and last September was scheduled to fight on Dana White's Contender Series for a shot at a contract with the promotion.
As of Tuesday, Pimblett moved up two spots to No. 7, surpassing Mateusz Gamrot and Beneil Dariush without lifting a finger. He falls behind Dan Hooker, Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Max Holloway, and Arman Tsarukyan, four of whom have had UFC title shots before.
Kamaru Usman is not a big fan of Paddy Pimblett potentially getting the next title shot against UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria. Pimblett and Topuria faced off in the cage after “El Matador” won the vacant 155 pound title via a first round knockout of Charles Oliveira back in June.
After UFC 317, Ilia Topuria and Paddy Pimblett faced off, hinting that a big fight between them could be on the way. The moment got fans excited, thinking it might be the next big matchup.
Riley (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) represents the next generation of Next Generation MMA, the gym that has produced the likes of Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann among others. The UFC had previously tried to hire his services for Dana White's Contender Series in 2024 but visa issues prevented it from happening.
