A sequel to 'My Best Friend's Wedding' is in development at Sony, with 'Past Lives' and 'Materialists' writer Celine Song on board to write.

Wedding bells may be ringing for Celine Song, who has been tapped to write a sequel to Sony’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project is in early development, and at this stage, Song is attached to write, but not direct, and would not necessarily be her next project.

Celine Song, the acclaimed filmmaker and writer behind Materialists and Past Lives, is writing the screenplay, but she will not be directing, per Variety. Song has shown her expertise in romance (and love triangles) in her two films. She recently told ELLE, “Love is meaningless unless it’s unconditional. And that, to me, is non-negotiable.”
