The Mets struggled in every aspect of the game during their historic collapse, but it all starts with the defense.
Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez will undergo surgery to repair the sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb "in the coming days," president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday.
Before his final MLB start against the Marlins on Aug. 31, Mendoza said that Senga was “physically fine.” He also revealed that in conversations with pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, Senga had voiced that he “doesn’t feel his lower half the way he used to.”
David Stearns took responsibility for the decisions that led to the Mets' playoff collapse in 2025 and spoke on how it will impact the future.
The Mets surged to a lead in that National League East division after a blockbuster offseason of free agent acquisitions. But pitcher injuries and regressions on the mound drove a collapse that superstars like Pete Alonso, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor couldn’t hold off.
Stearns took a healthy share of the blame for a disappointing season. “I'm the architect of the team. I'm responsible for it,” he said.
Mike Francesa has seen a thing or two in his days watching Mets baseball, and he put it bluntly when talking about the Mets missing the playoffs.
