A former Ohio police officer convicted in the shooting death of Andre Hill, a Black man who was holding a cellphone and keys when he was killed, was given a mandatory sentence of 15 years to life on Monday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County judge sentenced former Columbus Division of Police officer Adam Coy to 15 years to life in prison. Coy appeared in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas on Monday. He will get the chance for parole after 15 years. Coy said he plans on appealing the conviction and that the jury reached the wrong verdict.
